Loscon GIVES BACK!
Besides the Toy Drive, we are giving back to the American Cancer Society (ACS). The fight against cancer is dear to our hearts. We are proud to announce that we are working with Julia Ree (cancer survivor) and the American Cancer Society (ACS).

During the weekend, we will be having an auction to raise money for ACS. ACS is known for being there for people currently undergoing cancer treatment. The ACS gives resources, help with rides to treatments, and so much more. Their mission is to end cancer. Loscon aims to help with that mission. You can visit them at cancer.org. For more information on donating your items to Loscon, please go to Loscon Gives Back.

Not sure how to give back? Loscon has something for you, especially if you knit, crochet, or sew. We are making hats for cancer patients currently undergoing treatment.
These hats can be dropped off with Joyce Sperling in the Office. All of these amazing hats will be donated to our very own Julia Ree during closing ceremonies. Cannot attend Loscon, but still want to donate hats or items for the auction? Please email Eylat Poliner at chair@loscon.org, and she will reply with a mailing address so items can be shipped ahead of the convention.

Loscon 50: 50 years of memories of those we’ve loved and lost. This year we are putting together a memorial wall, which will be available to view in the Art Show. If you have pictures of your LASFS/Loscon loved ones, we invite you to bring them to Loscon. We will display them. We will also have cards, and decorating supplies so that you can leave tributes throughout the convention. We will watch our wall grow with the love of those who may have left this realm, but not our hearts. Death does not release us from membership.

And don’t forget to let us know you’re coming on our Facebook event at:

We are no longer accepting program panelists – this is now closed. However; we are still passing along names of possible replacements to programming just in case.

Are you an inventor? Do you like making things? Loscon is bringing back the Make Room, Make Room. Here you will be able to showcase your stuff. If you are interested, please email Gene Turnbow at make-room@loscon.org.

Loscon is having a Costume Play contest this year! No, we do not have signups online; however, look for the sign-up table near the registration area, and you’ll be able to sign up and participate.

Loscon is also having Hall Costume Awards, thanks to John Hertz.

Maria Rodriguez will be running our Costume Repair Station.

Do you want to play a game? We will have Tabletop and Electronic Gaming rooms.

Do you like to watch movies? We will be presenting movies, dating from the time Loscon got started, to the present. Thomas Safer will be hosting this room, which will include early morning cartoons on Saturday morning. We will be showing the original “Star Wars” ® movies, one each day of the convention. Come, and enjoy the festival!

Do you like to sing? Well, I do. Did you know Larry Niven is a filker? Well, he is. Yes, there will be lots of music to choose from. Nick Smith will be running our music program. You can email him at music@loscon.org.

If you missed your opportunity to purchase a Loscon logo pin, you still can get them here.

Don’t forget, we are moving next door to the Hilton Los Angeles Airport, located at 5711 West Century Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90045 . See you all there for Loscon 50, November 29 – December 1, 2024.

Special note: Loscon will NOT be having a Con Suite this year. In its place, there will be a Draco’s Tavern to hang out and talk with your friends, and possibly meet new ones. This room will be sponsored by Sci-Fi Radio.com. They will be presenting genre hits from the past 50 years. We will also be presenting special group meetups in this room.

If you have any questions, please email me at chair@loscon.org.

Thank you!
