Regency Dancing with John Hertz
The English Regency was a colorful time, with Jane Austen’s novels, Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Mozart’s music (even that rule-breaker Beethoven wrote for dance)
Technically the Regency was 1811-1820, but since a period in history rarely starts suddenly like a horse race, the Regency period is often considered to begin around 1790 or even a little earlier, and to end around 1825 or even a little later.
Fannish interest in the Regency began with the sparkling novels of Georgette Heyer. Jane Austen, while among the greatest of all time, is writing in her own day and doesn’t explain anything. Georgette Heyer, like a good SF author, introduces us into her world. Try her “Arabella” or “Cotillion”.
Regency dancing at science fiction conventions began when John Hertz was asked to teach it. He still does.
Come in costume or come as you are. Dance experience is welcome but not needed.
