Los Angeles, California – The Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society awards the annual Forry Award to Bjo Trimble for Lifetime Achievement in Science Fiction for 2026.
Bjo’s introduction to science fiction fandom was TASFiC, the 1952 Worldcon held in Chicago while she served in the US Navy. When she returned to Los Angeles, she helped revive a flagging Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society (LASFS) in the late 1950s. In 1958, she organized the “Worldcon Futuristic Fashion Show” at Solacon, the 16th World Science Fiction Convention. Trimble started and directed “Project Art Show”, the first modern convention art show, in 1960. This led to art shows becoming a significant part of most SFF conventions, including our own Loscon.
Bjo and her late husband John were part of the successful “Save Star Trek” campaign, generally credited with petitioning for the series to run for a third season, allowing it to be placed into syndication. They also helped with the campaign to have the first of NASA’s Space Shuttles named Enterprise.
As an artist and cartoonist, Bjo is a Hugo nominated fanzine contributor. It was a collection of fanzine art by herself and others that illustrate her Star Trek Concordance, a cross-referenced detailed encyclopedia on every character, setting, event and device in every episode of the original Star Trek.
The Forry Award, named for the late Forrest J Ackerman, was started by LASFS in 1966. Awarded to a wide range of Science Fiction luminaries, starting with Ray Bradbury and in 2025, C. J. Cherryh. It is formally awarded at the Loscon convention over Thanksgiving Weekend.
The Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society, LASFS, was founded Oct. 27, 1934. It is the world’s oldest continuously active science-fiction and fantasy club. LASFS is composed of professional writers, aspiring writers, fans of genre literature, media, gaming and more. Notable members include Larry Niven, Ray Bradbury, Forrest J Ackerman, David Gerrold, and far too many to list here. Our unofficial motto, “Death Will Not Release You”.
