Hall costumes are the science fiction & fantasy costumes some people wear for strolling the halls at SF conventions.
The late, great Marjii Ellers called them daily wear for alternate worlds.
They can be original — things you invented yourself; or re-creations — faithful reproductions of known images, like Spiderman or Wonder Woman or Boris Karloff ‘s Frankenstein monster.
Hall costumes are meant to be met, in the Dealer’s Room, at a party, in the halls.
To recognize them, roaming hall-costume judges have, “Hall Costume Award” rosettes. If a judge thinks your hall costume is good, you get a rosette to wear with it.
The judges each use their own judgement. One of them might pass you by and another might give you a rosette. Diversity.
We think hall costumes enrich our convention. Some folks think they’re silly; diversity again.
