LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Loscon 47 “Putting the Science in Science Fiction”


The Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society (LASFS), the world’s oldest continuously active science fiction and fantasy club (founded Oct. 27, 1934), presents the 47th Loscon — Los Angeles’ longest running fan convention — over Thanksgiving weekend (November 26 – 28, 2021). This family-friendly gathering includes a variety of panels, discussions, activities, a film festival, an art show, and shopping. Diverse participants include area authors, such as Steven Barnes, Larry Niven and Tim Powers.

Writer Guest of Honor, Dr. Gregory Benford, recently released, “Glorious”, the newest release of the Bowl of Heaven series co-written with Larry Niven.  Artist Guest of Honor, Jeff Sturgeon’s artwork has inspired an entire book of stories collected in the “Last Cities of Earth Anthology”. Fan Guests of Honor are longtime participants, Dennis and Kristine Cherry.

LASFS will host the functions mandated in the Westercon Constitution for Westercon 73 at Loscon 47, including the Business Meeting and Site Selection voting. Westercon 73 memberships will be honored at Loscon 47.

First held in 1975 at the International Hotel (now the Hyatt Regency), Loscon is hosted down the street at the recently redesigned Los Angeles Airport Marriott, located on Century Boulevard near Los Angeles International Airport. Day/weekend memberships and room reservations are currently available at discounted rates. Covid-19 safety precautions will be in effect.
